Reviewer Comments: Eroticism with a suspenseful twist is the main theme of Rebecca Grant’s newest book. She blends the story of a woman who is trying to discover who she is with the mysterious cowboy who happens to roll up. Between these two people, the pages of this book simply sizzle.
Liberty Starr was raised in a naturist colony. She loves the feel of nature against her skin and loves the fact that she lives in a place where she can ride naked if she chooses. When she learns that the man that has treated her like a daughter is dying of cancer and plans on leaving his estate to her, Libby has more to deal with than she ever expected. Libby is happy running her small hotel and boarding stables. She now has to learn how to run an enormous estate and handle the fact that her benefactor is being threatened.
Rafe Cabrerras has a secret agenda and is thrilled when Liberty asks him to stay on at her boarding stables to help out. He doesn’t expect to feel an attraction to her or to be dragged into the inheritance that she finds herself part of. Rafe thought he could come into town, find the information he needs and leave as quietly without anyone knowing anything different. Now he has to figure out if his secret is worth Libby’s trust.
I enjoyed this story for the most part. Occasionally the sequence of events seemed disjoined, but overall it has a good flow. Ms. Grant builds her story around the attraction that Libby and Rafe feel for each other as well as the secret that Rafe has. The powerful attraction that Rafe and Libby feel results in some pretty intense sexual encounters that are graphically described.
The erotiscism of the story is tempered by the suspenseful elements. Not only do we not know what Rafe’s secret is, we also don’t know the extent of the danger that both Libby and her benefactor face and exactly who is behind it. Libby’s benefactor is also hiding something and Libby doesn’t know all there is to know about him. All of these situations lead the characters into some tense moments as Libby decides whether or not she can trust Rafe.
I appreciated the amount of detail that Ms. Grant gives about being on a horse ranch as well as the amount of things that Libby has to handle as she tries to discover Rafe’s secret. It is obvious that Ms. Grant knows something about horse ranches and that she enjoys being around horses. We can feel that joy when she describes Libby’s love for animals.
